|VeriTest Selected by Microsoft for Industry-Leading Analysis and Performance Testing of Microsoft Windows Server Versus Linux|
WALTHAM, Mass., April 6, 2005 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Lionbridge (Nasdaq: LIOX) today announced that VeriTest, the Lionbridge testing division, has successfully completed a competitive analysis and performance testing program that compares the reliability and manageability of a production environment built on Windows Server 2003 versus a production environment built on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0. Microsoft selected VeriTest to conduct this analysis based on their skilled research and independent testing expertise.
"Customers are asking for comprehensive data to help them make value-based IT decisions," said Martin Taylor, general manager of the Platform Strategy Group at Microsoft. "We selected VeriTest as an independent industry expert to assess Windows Server 2003 and evaluate its performance against competitive offerings to provide the research and analysis customers ask for to help them evaluate their IT options."
To conduct the study, VeriTest simulated a real-world medium-size business environment and assembled two independent teams of IT professionals including IT administrators for Windows and Red Hat Linux. Only administrators who passed a thorough screening process (e.g., written tests, resumes reviews, interviews) were invited to participate.
The test included a series of tasks involving updating and reconfiguring the systems with the goal of improving the reliability and robustness of the environment. As administrators executed these tasks, a VeriTest test proctor initiated troubleshooting events such as device or system service failures that simulated typical system and end user problems. Administrators had a total of 26 hours over four days to complete the test. Throughout the test, VeriTest compiled metrics to gauge the overall reliability and manageability of each environment.
"Microsoft's selection of VeriTest for critical analysis and performance testing underscores our independent testing leadership and demonstrates the value of our competitive analysis solutions," said Satish Maripuri, Chief Operating Officer, Lionbridge. "Customers continue to prioritize reliability as one of the top influencers when making these important technology purchasing decisions. By working with VeriTest to ensure the quality and performance of Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Microsoft is demonstrating its commitment to providing its customers with the highest levels of reliability and manageability."
